Step into Maymont's Story
Travel through history at your own pace! Learn more about the origin story of this historic estate — its design inspirations, cultural context and the stories of the people who made it all possible.
Take along a narrated audio tour as you explore this well-preserved example of a Gilded Age ornamental estate built at the turn of the 20th century, all within the complicated story of the New South and Jim Crow.
Tours are available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am – 5 pm (last tour time slot starts at 3:30). Tours can be reserved online or in person for just $8 for adults, $6 for children ages 3 – 16 and for seniors 65+. Free for Maymont members and Museums for All* participants (*they just need to show an EBT card at the door). Please allow at least 45 minutes to complete the tour.
Historic Garden Tour

Explore the Italian Garden as well as some of the surrounding areas as envisioned by Sallie Dooley. Tour begins in The Stone Barn Welcome Center.
Architecture Tour
Fridays-Sundays, 10am-4pm (last tour slot 2:30-3pm)
Explore the architectural design of a turn-of-the-century estate built on 100 acres of rolling hills overlooking the James River. The tour offers insight into the American Gilded Age, an era of rapid economic growth and technological advances, from 19th century gas lighting and horse power to 20th century electricity and automobiles.

These walking tours explore the gardens, outbuildings and other estate features that made Maymont a showplace without equal in Gilded Age Richmond. Guests will learn about the design of the Italian garden, the arboretum comprised of rare specimen trees imported in the 1890s, and the uses of the various outbuildings.

The Maymont Mansion is currently under renovation as a part of Maymont 2025 - a $11.75 million project to celebrate Maymont's 100th Anniversary. Mansion tours will resume when the project is complete in 2025.
