Adopt an Animal
Maymont is home to hundreds of animals including mighty black bears, iconic American bald eagles, playful river otters and friendly goats. Maymont’s animals require annual veterinary care, enrichment activities and habitat maintenance to stay healthy. This all adds up to an annual cost of $500,000. And boy, do they eat a lot! In fact, Monty the bobcat alone eats almost 300 pounds of meat each year. Many animals can be seen at the Children’s Farm, Nature Center and wildlife exhibits, and others are important members of the environmental education team, participating in public and school programs. How to Adopt an Animal
You don’t have to spend a fortune to help care for your furry, feathered and finned friends at Maymont, though, and your symbolic adoption will benefit the animals as well as the thousands of guests who visit and learn from them each year. When you adopt a Maymont animal, you will receive an official Maymont animal adoption certificate, collectible animal fact cards and one free admission to the Nature Center. Symbolic adoptions also make great gifts for anyone who loves animals and are a unique way for a business or club to give back to the community. They can also serve as educational tools for students. Best of all, you can visit your adopted animal at Maymont and see the results of your generous support. For more information, call 804-358-7166, ext. 313.
