Virginia Wildlife Trail Grrrrand Reopening

Thanks to everyone who joined us on Saturday, May 2 to celebrate the reopening of the wildlife trail!

Welcome back to Maymont’s beloved Virginia Wildlife Trail, a forever home for rescued and rehabilitated native wildlife nestled in a forested 40-acre valley in the heart of Richmond.

What's new?

After a two-year enhancement project, explore the new and remodeled habitats, with more accessible pathways, new interpretive signs and more ways to view our wildlife residents.

Say hi to our newest residents, two porcupines and two coyotes! Plus, revisit old friends like Finnley the fox — and see his upgraded habitat!

Wildlife in The Robins Nature Center

If you love wildlife, be sure to include The Robins Nature Center (admission fee applies) in your visit, so you can see wildlife in our nearly 30,000 gallons of aquaria

  • Start here to find the bison habitat nearby and the fox habitat a short walk away by the Wetlands

Book a tour or animal encounter!

For a deeper experience of the Virginia Wildlife Trail, sign up for a Trail Trek walking tour or Breakfast with the Bears program. Offered most weekends after reopening through fall, the guided walking tours and animal encounter programs give you insights into the natural histories of the animals that share our environment.
