Maymont Kicks Off the Outdoor Concert Season With Two Musical Events in June
Richmond, Virginia – Maymont invites the community to come out and celebrate the arrival of the outdoor concert season with two musical events in the first week of June in one of Richmond’s favorite natural settings.
On Sunday afternoon, June 1, Maymont is pleased to join the Richmond Symphony in presenting the free Mile of Music event at Maymont, from 2 – 5 pm. Featuring mini-concerts extending across Maymont’s spacious grounds, guests can enjoy acoustic performances by six ensembles of the Symphony’s talented musicians, featuring different groups of strings, wind and brass instruments. The ensembles will each perform twice, spaced at regular intervals and locations encompassing the Carriage House Lawn, the Mansion lawn, the Italian Garden and Tulip Poplar Hill. More details are available on Maymont’s and the Richmond Symphony’s websites, and the event is proudly supported in part by the City of Richmond.
On Friday, June 6, Maymont presents the Summer Kickoff Concert, featuring popular local bands, Full Moon Fever playing Tom Petty classics, followed by “America’s favorite yacht rock band,” Three Sheets to the Wind. Gates open at 5 pm, and the music begins on the CoStar Group Main Stage at 6 pm. A variety of local food vendors will be on site with a range of cuisines, along with craft beer, cider and wine for purchase. Event proceeds help care for Maymont all year-round.
“From classical music on Sunday to classic pop on Friday, Maymont is pleased to open the outdoor concert season with a variety of musical experiences,” said Parke Richeson, Maymont President and CEO. “Between sets, guests can take a stroll through this unique historic landscape, and on Friday night, watch the sun setting over the rolling hills.”
Advance reservations for Friday’s concert are strongly recommended. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit Maymont.org/skc. The event is rain or shine, and tickets are non-refundable, except in the case that Maymont cancels the event.
Appearing on the CoStar Group Main Stage:
Full Moon Fever is a Tom Petty cover band that pays tribute to the iconic rock musician and his band, the Heartbreakers. The band is made up of experienced musicians who are dedicated to accurately recreating the sound and energy of Tom Petty’s music. Playing hits from Petty's solo career and his time with the Heartbreakers, Full Moon Fever is known for its high-energy live shows and its ability to capture the spirit of Petty’s timeless music.
Three Sheets to the Wind plays "yacht rock" with an irresistible appeal. The classic pop hits from the '70s and '80s are beloved by the band’s hard-core fans, who know these songs by heart from the party soundtrack of the era. Even new fans discovering the catchy, well-crafted tunes for the first time will find it hard to resist dancing.
Event admission is $20 for adults, children’s tickets are $10; Maymont member tickets are $15. Through the Museums for All program, anyone with a SNAP EBT benefit card may purchase up to four adult tickets for $3 each, and accompanying children are admitted free.
Advance tickets may be purchased online any time, or in person on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at The Robins Nature Center or Stone Barn Welcome Center between 10am–5pm. Tickets will also be for sale at the gate on the evening of the show.
Ride-sharing and public transit are strongly encouraged. Free event parking is available by the Hampton Street event entrance and The Robins Nature Center. Maymont Farm will be closed for this event. Please note: Maymont’s grounds will close to the public at 3 pm on June 6 to allow for concert setup.
