Maymont Nature Center Closing for Renovations

October 2, 2019
The Robins Nature & Visitor Center at Maymont, located at 2201 Shields Lake Drive in Richmond, Virginia, will close temporarily for renovation and enhancements beginning November 1, 2019. The Nature Center, which has not seen major improvements since its completion in 1999, is expected to re-open in early spring 2020. Read more.

Garden Glow at Maymont Lights Up the Japanese Garden

Have You 'Herd'? Three Young Elk Have Arrived at Maymont

For the first time in 17 years, Maymont is home to elk, Cervus canadensis, one of the largest land mammals in North America. Two females (cows), approximately two years old, and one male (bull), approximately one year old, arrived at their new habitat near the Maymont Farm this spring. In the 1950s, Maymont housed a small herd of elk, but the last of that group died of natural causes in 2002. Read more.

Carriages by Candlelight Highlights Unique Maymont Collection

Maymont will present the second annual Carriages by Candlelight event, a unique celebration of the Maymont Carriage Collection, on Sunday, June 9 from 6 to 9 pm. Guests will enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres and spirits among beautiful antique carriages displayed on Maymont’s Carriage House Lawn and in the historical Carriage House. Musical entertainment, creative themed displays and carriage rides will add to the magic of the evening. Maymont Beer & Wine Classic Celebrates Virginia Craft Beverages

Beer and wine lovers are invited to raise a glass to local craft beverages on Friday, May 3 from 6-10pm at the bi-annual Beer & Wine Classic at Maymont, presented by Genworth Financial and Altria. Guests can mingle on Maymont’s scenic Carriage House Lawn and enjoy live music from Three Sheets to the Wind, America’s #1 Tribute to Yacht Rock, as they sample some of Virginia’s finest beverages. Put on your gardening shoes, grab your little red wagon and come out for everyone’s favorite gardening extravaganza, Herbs Galore & More at Maymont, on Saturday, April 27 from 8am to 4pm! Guests can peruse unique garden and herb-related goods from dozens of vendors at the Marketplace on Maymont’s Carriage House Lawn, learn from herb specialists during Meet the Expert sessions, and enjoy local food trucks while relishing the start of spring. Maymont Announces New Senior Curator for Mansion

The Maymont Foundation is pleased to announce that David Voelkel has been selected as the new Senior Curator of Historical Collections at Maymont. He was chosen from a nationwide search of more than 60 candidates. He begins his position at Maymont on April 17. Read more.

Families Hop to Maymont for Dominion Energy Family Easter

Families are invited to ring in the spring season at Maymont during one of Richmond’s favorite holiday events, Dominion Energy Family Easter, on Saturday, April 20 from 10am to 3pm on the Carriage House Lawn. Guests are sure to have an egg-cellent experience as they enjoy amusing games and activities, food trucks, live entertainment, and more. Maymont Went "Wild" with Animal Additions in 2018

Maymont welcomed four new native animals – a striped skunk, an American kestrel, a red fox and an Eastern screech owl – to its wildlife family in the second half of 2018. Read more.
