Maymont Will Be Hopping With Fun on April 19
for Dominion Energy Family Easter!
Richmond, Virginia – Maymont invites families to celebrate spring at Dominion Energy Family Easter on Saturday, April 19, from 9am–3pm. All three entrances to Maymont will be open and the grounds will be hopping with fun activities, games and crafts stretching from the Carriage House Lawn to The Robins Nature Center and Maymont Farm.
The fun includes a chance to snap a photo with the Easter Bunny, presented by Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods, meet local heroes and helpers in the Community Zone, and enjoy live entertainment on three stages. Performers include Jonathan the Juggler, the SPARC Touring Ensemble, the Swingers Jump Rope Team, Maymont’s animal ambassadors, and a Dance Zone with a live DJ from Bach to Rock. Plus, Maymont’s gardens and grounds will be in full bloom, with miles of trails and lawns to explore, with picnic food available from popular local food vendors.
Admission is just $5 per person — free for Maymont members and Museums for All participants — and event proceeds help Maymont care for this beloved historic green space. Each admission includes three activity tickets for Easter-themed games like the life-size Candy Adventure, the Carrot Pull and Hen House Hoopla, plus inflatable sports games, bonnet-making and spring crafts, a Planting Station and temporary tattoos.
Many activities earn small prizes or toys, so families should bring Easter baskets to take home the bounty. An activity ticket earns entry to The Robins Nature Center, featuring the “Run of the River” experience and Maymont’s popular otters. Additional activity tickets are just $2 each.
Kids love visiting the Community Zone, too, where they can meet public service heroes and helpers and see their fire engines, emergency vehicles and utility trucks up close. Local sports mascots Nutzy and Nutasha, and Kickeroo will be there too, as well as family-friendly businesses like Publix and Goldfish Swim School, and local nonprofit organizations.
“Dominion Energy Family Easter has become a marquee event for the greater Richmond community to get outdoors and celebrate the spring season together,” said Parke Richeson, Maymont President and CEO. “It’s a special way for families to have fun and enjoy this unique public space, while event proceeds help us care for Maymont all year-round.”
Advance reservations are recommended, with a choice of entry times — morning (9am–12pm) or afternoon (12–3 pm) — and everyone can stay and play all day. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit Maymont.org. The event is rain or shine, and tickets are non-refundable, except in the case that Maymont cancels the event.
Event admission also may be purchased in person in advance on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays by visiting The Robins Nature Center or Stone Barn Welcome Center between 10am–5pm. Museums for All participants may reserve free event admission for themselves and up to 3 guests by presenting an EBT card at these locations or at check-in on the day of the event.
Dominion Energy Family Easter is Maymont’s largest single-day volunteer event! Volunteers will find details and sign-up forms at maymont.org.
Parking is limited in the immediate area, so ride-sharing and public transit are strongly encouraged. Free parking is available by the Hampton Street entrance, The Robins Nature Center, and Maymont Farm, as well as on-street parking. The grounds are open only to event participants until 4 pm, when Maymont will reopen to the general public until 7pm.
Dominion Energy Family Easter kicks off a series of signature community events at Maymont. On Saturday, April 26, Maymont hosts Richmond’s favorite plant and garden sale, Herbs Galore; and on Friday, June 6, the Summer Kickoff Concert features popular local bands playing a concert under the stars. In the fall, look for the return of Garden Glow in October-November and Merry Market in December.
