Bier-Garden Brings Together Beer, Brats and Family Fun at Maymont, Sept. 21–22
Richmond, Virginia – Maymont invites everyone to Bier-Garden, September 21-22, for a weekend of beer, bratwurst, pretzels and family fun in a beautiful outdoor setting on the Carriage House Lawn. It’s a great way to welcome the arrival of fall and celebrate the first weekend of the world’s largest Volksfest — without traveling to Munich!
This two-day German-style festival is a fun way to connect with nature and each other over steins of authentic Paulaner beer, or craft brews by Bingo Beer Co. and Väsen, and plates of mouth-watering Bavarian specialties cooked up by Capital Ale House and other chefs. Lederhosen and dirndls are encouraged, but not required, for the Stein-Hoisting Contest presented by Capital Ale House.
The festival opens at 11am each day, and guests can grab a seat at one of the long tables under the big Festhaus tent and enjoy lively music by DJ BearBonez and performances by Jonathan the Juggler, or lawn games on the grass. Brass bands will cap off the entertainment each evening until 7:30 pm, with Pay Rent Brass Band on Saturday and The Monumentals on Sunday night.
New this year, a Marketplatz of local artisans will feature tasty hand-crafted treats and gifts, and kids can hang out in the Kinderzone all day both days, with crafts, games, farm animals and more. Local food trucks will supply kid-friendly food and fun festival treats like funnel cakes, popcorn and waffles, too.
“Maymont is the place to be for the first weekend of fall, and Bier-Garden offers fun for everyone in our community,” said Parke Richeson, President and CEO of Maymont Foundation. “We are so excited to offer a Marketplatz of local artisans this year, and two full days of Kinderzone fun!”
Guests are encouraged to register in advance, with all proceeds benefiting Maymont. Admission is $10 per person; $6 for children ages 3–16. Maymont Members and children 2 years and younger admitted free. Participants in the Museums for All program enjoy free admission when they present an EBT/SNAP card (at the event entrance, or in advance on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays). Event admission includes entry to The Robins Nature Center from 11am-5pm.
Food and beverages are available for separate purchase; tokens for beer, cider and more are $8 for a 16oz pour. For adults 21 and older, a stein upgrade for $16 includes a large souvenir glass stein presented by Capital Ale House, with one token for a free serving and larger pours for each additional token purchase.
Tickets are non-refundable. Bier-Garden is a rain or shine event, except in case of severe weather.
Event parking is available at the Hampton Street, The Robins Nature Center, and Maymont Farm parking lots, in addition to street parking.
