Vintage Maymont Fundraiser Brings In $353,000 for Maymont
Release Date: November 14, 2017
Maymont celebrated the 20th anniversary of its annual Vintage Maymont fundraiser on Friday, October 27, welcoming guests with sparkling wine as they arrived to The Jefferson Hotel. As a non-profit and one of the most visited attractions in Richmond, Virginia, Maymont has been able to realize its vision for the future thanks to the unwavering dedication of corporations, foundations, and individuals. At $500,000 a year, one of the foundation’s largest costs is caring for the hundreds of animals that call Maymont home. This year’s event was dedicated to those animals and – for the first time ever – some of Maymont’s furry and feathered friends were able to mingle with the guests at The Jefferson Hotel. The event was a large success, bringing in $353,000 in gross proceeds to help fund Maymont’s education programs and a variety of estate-wide programs. In one night, the event raised nearly 10 percent of Maymont’s annual operating budget of $3.8 million.
Kristen and Michael Neese and Patsy and Bruce Arnett served as co-chairs for the event, which began with a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by dinner and a live auction. Altria was the silent auction wine sponsor, Capital One Bank was the cocktail reception sponsor, and JPMorgan Chase & Co. was the silent auction sponsor for the event.
Attendees bid on a variety of vacations, fine wines, artwork and one-of-a-kind opportunities. Highlights included:
- A Week in French Wine Country for Ten – A week-long stay in France’s Burgundy region at a private, well-appointed home in the village of Vergison, surrounded by the area’s wineries and vineyards. Auctioned for $19,000 (sold twice).
- A fantastic wine lot filled with the treasures of Bordeaux, including three bottles of 1994 Château Mouton Rothschild. Auctioned for $7,000.
- Fantastic Festivities at the Farm for 100 – A three-hour event on the lawn of the newly renovated Maymont Farm, including delicious barbecue and refreshing desserts, a performance by soulful crooner Susan Greenbaum, and special animal meet-and-greets with everyone’s favorite farm animals. Auctioned for $5,200.
- Since 1975, Maymont has been maintained and operated by the private nonprofit Maymont Foundation. Only 11 percent of its annual $3.8 million operating budget comes from the City of Richmond; the rest of its funding is raised through individual and corporate donations and events like Vintage Maymont.
