The Victorian Holidays at Maymont have never felt so alive! The season is more animated than ever in 2016 with new living history by actors Alan Sader and Desiree Roots, new market vendors during Old-Fashioned Christmas, more music, and of course, everyone’s favorite activities – mansion tours and horse-drawn carriage rides. Maymont is an ideal setting to escape the hustle and bustle of modern-day mania and experience simpler, slower and more picturesque seasonal celebrations. A series of programs and events for all ages is offered for six full weeks, November 18-December 31.

Major and Mrs. Dooley’s spectacularly decorated Gilded Age home brings the wonders and festivities of Christmas past to life and is sure to put everyone in the holiday spirit. Beautiful trimmings on the 12-foot Christmas tree, the opulent dining room set for a feast, evergreen decorations and lavish gifts welcome the season in grand Victorian style. In the Belowstairs area, preparations are underway to make the Dooleys’ first Christmas in their new home special for their family and friends. Celebrate a charming, old-fashioned Christmas and experience a tradition enjoyed by generations of families. Victorian ladies and gentlemen graciously welcome you to the estate and invite you into the Dooleys’ home to marvel at the grand Christmas tree and the beautifully decorated formal rooms, and belowstairs, award-winning actress and vocalist Desiree Roots captivates audiences as Mrs. Walker, the Dooleys head cook, preparing for Christmas 1893. The trip back in time is enriched by the ever-popular horse-drawn carriages, bringing to mind a slower and simpler era. Nine choral and instrumental music groups fill the air with glorious sounds of the season, and a crowd favorite, living historian Lamar Banister, introduces event-goers to antique instruments and the history of Christmas music. Children delight in free ornament making, old-fashioned games, and greetings from Maymont’s Christmas Fairy and jolly ole St. Nick, played by award-winning actor Alan Sader. Market vendors offer a unique mix of vintage inspired gifts, fresh greenery, wreaths, lotions, candles and soaps for purchase. Good food and drinks complete this special celebration. Free activities. Dooley to witness the excitement of Christmas 1893. The Dooleys’ gracious family, guests and domestic staff bring to life the busy preparations for a special celebration – the first Christmas in their new home. New this year, look for award-winning actor Alan Sader performing as a member of Mrs. Dooley’s family in the Library. A horse-drawn carriage ride under the stars, seasonal refreshments and joyful carol singing by One Voice Chorus at the bonfire make this an evening to remember! $28 per person/$22 members.
