Golf Cart Tours at Maymont

Release Date: February 20, 2018

A new offering at Maymont allows its guests to explore 100 acres of rolling hills, expansive lawns, picturesque landscapes, Gilded Age history and animal habitats with ease. Private golf cart rides with a personal tour guide will begin March 17. The service will be available for bookings from spring through fall and by special request during the winter. Guests – young and old, new or returning – can take advantage of this unique experience full of little-known facts, estate history and insight about the resident animals.

“The new golf cart tours will meet a need that we’ve heard from many of our guests – a fun and accessible way to experience a variety of the highlights at Maymont,” said Parke Richeson, Maymont’s Executive Director. “We’re delighted to offer this new service which is ideal for visitors who want to see every corner of the estate with ease; tourists and Maymont fans who are looking for an informative tour of the grounds; and guests who have limited time and want to see as much as possible.”

A knowledgeable tour guide will lead guests on a private journey across the estate where they can view everything from the renowned Italian and Japanese Gardens and the historic buildings to the wildlife habitats,
newly renovated Farm and Raptor Valley.

One-hour guided tours on Saturdays and Sundays can be booked online, and weekday tours can be scheduled by phone with advance notice. Availability is limited. Tours begin and end at the Robins Nature & Visitor Center at 2201 Shields Lake Drive, and the cost is $30 per person / $20 for Maymont members (recommended ages 5+; limit four people per tour). For more information, visit maymont.org/golf-cart-tours or call 804-358-7166, ext. 338 for same-day bookings.

Since 1975, Maymont has been maintained and operated by the private nonprofit Maymont Foundation. The Foundation must raise more than $3 million each year through donations to keep the estate open to the public.
