HOUSEMAID, 1919-1921

Martha “Matty” Netherland (b. 1871) and her parents were Virginia natives. City directories indicate that she was a domestic and maid at Maymont between 1919 and 1921. Federal census describes her as a literate, unmarried 49-year-old woman. It appears that she resided at Maymont, and, in the summers, she relocated to Swannanoa with the Dooleys.
