Starting around sunset, dramatic lighting transforms the historic architecture and gardens into a magical experience for all ages. Bring friends, family or a date for an unforgettable night exploring this year’s expanded pathway, featuring art installations from around the world.
Merry Market
December 7 & 8, 12pm – 5pm
Ring in the holiday season at Maymont! Make a new holiday tradition on the Carriage House Lawn with family and friends under the twinkling lights, evergreen garlands and charm of Maymont’s historic corridor. Cozy up to a fire pit with a cup of good cheer or hot cocoa and browse hundreds of unique gift items in a curated local artisan market.

Toddler Time

Connect with nature and history at Maymont. Your child will meet animals, make crafts, sing songs and learn stories, all while playing and exploring with Maymont’s educators. Your toddler might even make a few new friends!
Family Night Hike
Ever wonder who stays awake while you sleep? Meet some of Maymont’s nighttime residents and learn about their nocturnal adaptations through experiments, games and a hike of the grounds for James River Week! Owls, bats, frogs and many other creatures of the dark will help shed some light onto their mysterious ways.
Out of School Day Camps

For youth who love the adventure of summer camp, Maymont will keep the adventure alive during the school year when school is out! On select dates when students are out of school, avoid the scramble for day care and enroll your K – 3rd grade student in one of Maymont’s educational and fun day camps.
Homeschool Days
Maymont’s field investigation programs are a great option for homeschooled students! Enrich your student’s environmental science, history and social studies with hands-on experiences and interactive learning tools that take advantage of Maymont’s new facilities as well as the historic 100-acre landscape.
The Robins Nature Center

Themed “Run of the River,” The Robins Nature Center highlights the remarkable ecology of the James River located along Maymont’s southern border in Richmond. The experience also emphasizes the natural history of the area and environmental stewardship opportunities for the community.

Estate Walking Tours
Fridays in September; Times Vary
These walking tours explore the gardens, outbuildings and other estate features that made Maymont a showplace without equal in Gilded Age Richmond. Guests will learn about the design of the Italian garden, the arboretum comprised of rare specimen trees imported in the 1890s, and the uses of the various outbuildings.
Pollinator-Friendly Container Garden Workshop
September 18 & 19; 6–8pm
Create a beautiful container garden with guidance from Maymont staff in this make-and-take workshop. Learn how to customize and care for your container garden. Guests should bring their own gloves; all other materials will be provided.
Adult Night Hike
Meet some of Maymont’s nighttime residents and learn about their nocturnal adaptations through a hike of the grounds! Age 21+; adult beverages will be available for purchase.
Historic Audio Tours

Take along a narrated audio tour as you explore this well-preserved example of a Gilded Age ornamental estate built at the turn of the 20th century, all within the complicated story of the New South and Jim Crow.
