Maymont’s wild winter day camps offer outdoor adventures, animal encounters, games, crafts and hands-on activities for nature explorers. It’s a great time to finish holiday shopping and gift-wrapping while the kids are occupied with full mornings of fun. Sign up for one session or all five! Register by December 15 for the whole camp or click the links below to choose sessions during the week.
*These camps are for children in grades 3-6.
Treats & Tricks
Monday, December 18
Discover how animals learn specific actions and watch a training session with one of Maymont’s critters. Then find out what animal keepers do to keep the animals active and entertained, make enrichment treats, and watch the animals as they enjoy your creations.
Slither & Hop
Tuesday, December 19
Slither into the sensational world of reptiles and amphibians. Meet some of our resident animals like the alligator, snake, turtle, salamander and toad, and learn fascinating facts about them. Our “herps” are not hibernating, so come take a look!
Wednesday, December 20
What animals are awake during the winter? Let’s get outdoors to see! Meet native animal ambassadors at the Nature Center, and then see if we find any of those same critters outside. Be sure to bundle up.
Thursday, December 21
Have you ever wondered where inventors get their inspiration to create new things? Come play Velcro games, meet some of our resident wildlife, and investigate animal adaptations as we learn about nature that inspired this and other awesome inventions.
Wild Care and Aware
Friday, December 22
Spend the morning with some of our feathered, furry or finned friends as you learn what it takes to care for the animals at Maymont. Each camper will create a commercial to promote Maymont’s Adopt an Animal program, and receive a symbolic adoption certificate and plush animal.
