Maymont invites 3rd-12th grade teachers to participate in this one day workshop on place-based, project-based learning opportunities. The workshop includes an environmental education project-based learning overview and multiple sessions on local environmental issues, Maymont’s project-based learning programs, and the use of technology to record and submit real world scientific data. Teachers will receive well-developed project-based learning plans incorporating STEM, calendar of activities, Maymont staff consultation for teacher and students, field trip coordination and student projects supported by a driving question. Lunch is provided. Check with your school system to find out about recertification credit. Register online by July 5.
Recommendation: If you would like to have the whole grade level from your school to participate in the field trip portion of this program, it is strongly recommended that all or at least multiple teachers of the same grade level from your school attend the summer workshop together. Attendees have a better understanding of the program and the possible projects which facilitate a better experience for teachers and their students.
A limited number of scholarships were made possible with grant funding provided by the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Advisory Committee from the sale of Chesapeake Bay license plates. All scholarships have been awarded.
