Maymont's Vintage on the Green Gala & Auction Returns on May 11, Raising Funds to Care for All the Wild Things

Richmond, Virginia- The annual black-tie gala and auction, Vintage en el verde presented by Capital Square, returns to Maymont’s Carriage House Lawn on Saturday, May 11, from 6pm – 10pm. The gala is the largest single-night fundraising event during the most important month in Maymont’s fiscal calendar: Mayo es para Maymont. In addition to the gala, Maymont will also be presenting a month-long fundraising challenge prompted by a generous matching gift of $20,000 from donors, Mr. and Mrs. E. Claiborne Robins Jr., which doubles the impact of all individual donations, new memberships and Adopt an Animal gifts.

Vintage en el verde and individual contributions to Mayo es para Maymont help preserve these special 100 acres as a common ground where people can come to reconnect with nature, animals, history and each other, free of charge, all year round.

This year’s gala theme salutes all the wild things at Maymont, inspired by the natural setting surrounding the big tent on the lawn. The revelry includes a cocktail reception with silent auction, a seated dinner and a live auction of rare wines, vacation packages and special experiences.

“Vintage on the Green is a fantastic way to ensure Maymont continues to thrive and serve everyone in our community,” said Parke Richeson, Maymont President and CEO. “It’s also a blast of an evening, where guests make lasting connections with fellow supporters of this unique, authentic public greenspace we all love.”

Owned by the city and cared for by the Maymont Foundation, Maymont is a rare public-private collaboration that is supported primarily through voluntary giving. Fully 90% of Maymont’s funding is contributed by thousands of individual donors and members, foundations and community-minded businesses, and every individual who purchases an event ticket, an audio tour, or a souvenir plush animal, as well as countless volunteer hours, and dozens of weddings and birthday celebrations.

Maymont is a well-preserved, historic 100-acre estate overlooking the James River that was given to the public by James and Sallie Dooley, who lived there from 1893 to 1925. Today, Maymont is a welcoming community gathering place, with many unique experiences for all to enjoy, including the historic Maymont Mansion, The Robins Nature Center, an arboretum, formal gardens, and habitats for native Virginia wildlife and farm animals. Consistently ranked one of Central Virginia’s top attractions by travelers and locals alike, Maymont serves over 700,000 guests annually, with free admission to the grounds, plus guided and self-guided tours, seasonal events, programs and rental spaces. Since 1975, Maymont has been maintained and operated by the nonprofit Maymont Foundation, committed to creating programs and experiences that delight, educate and inspire its guests.
