March 8, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Maymont Honors International Women’s DayA Living History ProgramCelebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, which granted women the right to vote. Travel the decades-long path forged by our grandmothers, their mothers and countless citizens who struggled to win universal suffrage for American women in 1920. Experience diverse perspectives of the controversial issue at Maymont where Mrs. Dooley and her sisters-in-law found themselves on opposite sides of the issue, and African American women felt resistance due to their gender and their race. Listen to the arguments, justifications, and even women’s opposition to the vote during a living history rally and dynamic presentation. Don your hat, sash or Votes for Women badge, join in the rally and enjoy refreshments after the program as you mingle with the suffragists. Walk-ups welcome or register online.
