Where nature, history and exploration come together.

Maymont is a 100-acre green space in the heart of Richmond, Virginia. We welcome everyone to explore our spectacular Gilded Age mansion, beautiful curated gardens, immersive nature center, interactive farm and rescued animal habitats—and to find moments of wonder while you wander our rolling hills.

The Robins Nature Center

Themed “Run of the River,” discover remarkable ecology of the James River. The experience also emphasizes the natural history of the area and environmental stewardship opportunities for the community. Plus, meet Maymont's newest family members: two porcupettes!

Grand Gardens

Maymont's gardens are like nothing else in Central Virginia—expansive, unique, well-maintained and ever-changing. No public garden today could dream of duplicating Maymont’s magic, to say nothing of its costly architecture, grand trees or diversity of plants. Explore the Italian Garden, Japanese Garden, the Arboretum, and several specialty gardens.

Maymont Mansion

A well-preserved document of Gilded Age design, the mansion illustrates the dynamic interplay between server and served, working class and upper class and Black and white through a compelling exhibition in its restored belowstairs rooms. The mansion is currently closed while undergoing the biggest one-time preservation project in Maymont's history.

Maymont Farm

The Maymont Farm offers hands-on animal encounters and insight into farm life. Children and adults alike are delighted by the crow of a rooster, the feel of a sheep’s wool and the nudge of a hungry goat.

Virginia Wildlife Trail

Take a walk on the wild side at Maymont’s outdoor wildlife habitats. All habitats feature Virginia native species (historic and present), most of which are wildlife rescues, in our 40-acre valley. The wildlife habitats will be temporarily inaccessible during Maymont 2025 construction, with the exception of the bison habitat.

Maymont reaches a milestone in 2026: 100 years as a treasured public space. Learn how we're celebrating and dig into Maymont history on our 100th page.

The celebrations include reopening the Maymont Mansion and Virginia Wildlife Trail after major enhancements, as part of the Maymont 2025 initiative.

World Wildlife Day February 28, 2026

Celebrate World Wildlife Day at The Robins Nature Center! Connect to local wildlife with animal feedings, games, crafts, and animal keeper talks between 10am to 2pm. At 2:30pm, in partnership with the RVA Environmental Film Festival, we will show a film screening of "Teach Me To Be Wild".

The activities and film are included in the regular admission to the nature center. All proceeds help Maymont care for its animals, gardens and historic collections.

The 1893 Maymont Mansion reopens in March 2026, after two years of preservation and conservation. Join us at the free community Open House & Garden Party on Saturday, March 21. Want a sneak peek? We're hosting a ticketed Champagne Toast Preview on the evening of Friday, March 20 for adults age 21 and older.

Stay tuned for the opportunity to book tours on a regular basis again, restarting on Sunday, March 22.
